Review Cheap Clarion Car Stereo

Clarion Car Stereo - It's hard to imagine a more feature-laden unit below $100. It sounds very good, with very decent FM range, but easily the primary strength of this unit is its versatile connectivity: USB for iPod or flash drive, front AUX input, bluetooth, and of course CD/mp3 (though some players have dropped this feature). The rear USB cable was important to me for concealing a drive in the glovebox, which I preferred to the convenience of front-panel USB access.

Bluetooth capability had not been a priority for me, but the handsfree calling system and music streaming work well, an unexpectedly big plus. The disc player loads much more slowly than my previous Pioneer models, but the USB file loading time is somewhat better, and that will be my primary source of music.

The main downside (minus one star) of the Clarion Car Stereo is its much less refined display of mp3 track information, and its far less capable search mechanism, a problem if using drives larger than, say, 2 or 4 GB. It has a two-line display, but only the top line changes to show file name, artist, etc. By contrast, Pioneer has developed a very nice scrolling search that can navigate much larger drives full of music. Still, with the Clarion Car Stereo you can tell what's playing, and eventually find what you're looking for on the drive.

Finally, I'll note that this unit fit my 1998 Corolla nicely, despite warnings from Amazon and Crutchfield that it wouldn't. Very easy to install, despite the many jacks hanging off the back -- a bit of a nuisance, but also part of the unit's great connectivity. All in all, the best deal currently on Amazon for features and price.

Clarion NZ409 7-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

I just got the NZ409 and decided to make it professionally, instead of doing this installation. Everything I read online that the 2003 Honda Civic is pretty "tight" and can not be easy to do this as an amateur. In addition to the main unit, I had also installed a rearview camera, Sirius Satellite Radio SC-C1 and Blue Tooth.

The good news: The Clarion-menus are intuitive and easy to navigate through the various levels. The radio does not needadditional hardware adapter for Sirius. The SC connector C1 receiver right there. The handset display offers excellent options for saving preset radio and satellite. My iPod iTouch was recognized immediately and I was able to easily navigate through the various playlists. I tried the DVD function, and it seemed to work well. The display is crisp and bright (although probably not use this much). The GPS works well and the leadership seems to be exact. It acquires a signal quickly anda very bright display and clear.

The bad news: You need a USB extension cable, if you plan to use this feature on the phone. I have a 6 'long extension and leave the thread of my glove compartment on a roll. The fact that it plays DVD is nice, but if you sit in the car for 2 hours of battery burn time planning or gas, you will not get much use of this function as a parking brake must be on for this function. I understand it is a security measure, but it is something you need to do. I had some problems with the work BLT370 with the main unit. Both products are revealed by Clarion and turn on the Bluetooth device for best results. The book is still shining on this function as a simple answer, to make this work. Another strange hit the GPS is the voice of the lead director. It seems very "electronic" and has the same type of sound as the field of men who had radical surgery of the neck will. EvenI will take a bit 'longer than other units I used in the recalculation of the route to a fault.

All in all I think it's a great value for all the functions it has. As of now (2 days after my installation) I'm really happy with my choice of a selection of aftermarket radio.
